As the sun began to set and the fires were lit, The Group Activity picked up their instruments beneath towering trees - this live album is the result. Kids were playing in the warm September evening, and you can hear them if you listen closely. The backyard had been transformed into a DIY music festival, complete with hanging lights, potluck food, and even fire dancing later in the evening (though as a band we kept our distance from that last one).
One consistent theme throughout the live set is a journey of seeking peace in a broken system. We’re using this release to support City Life / Vida Urbana because we have a firm belief that social movements should be led by the people they’re designed to serve. One of the songs, Towers, deals with the emotional impact of a changing cityscape. CLVU addresses this directly by providing free legal help to those facing unjust treatment from landlords, organizing tenants, and showing solidarity for people facing eviction. The organization is currently working on a People’s Plan for housing in Boston to combat displacement and gentrification, and we have the amazing opportunity to help them in these efforts by showing our support.
